Robbins Flood Control

The goal of this project was to eliminate flooding along Midlothian Creek from 139th Street to the Metra-Rock Island tracks.

2IM updated the hydraulic and hydrologic models of the MWRDGC Detailed Watershed Plan (DWP). 2IM also prepared a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) to document environmental due diligence performed which included interviews, site reconnaissance, historical aerials and topographic maps review, and environmental database records review to identity any potential contamination at the project site.

2IM also performed a Phase II ESA which included soil sampling at areas identified as potentially contaminated in the Phase I ESA, determining disposal and reuse requirements for soils based on Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) Tiered Approach to Corrective Action Objectives (TACO) and Clean Construction or Demolition Debris (CCDD) regulations, and estimating volumes and costs for contaminated soils.

After discussions with the Village of Robbins regarding future redevelopment of the area, an urban planning component was added to the project. The aim of the urban planning component is to identify future development that is compatible with the current flood issues and will incorporate stormwater and flood control components into the overall development scheme. The goal is to identify potential land uses and development alternatives that will meet the needs of the Village of Robbins and protect existing homeowners from flooding.
