Tollway's Environmental Studies Inventory Sheet

Illinois State Toll Highway Authority

The Environmental Studies Inventory Sheet (ESIS) process is the Illinois Tollway’s environmental due diligence to ensure environmental resources are considered. It assists the Illinois Tollway and the design team in making sure impacts are avoided or minimized to environmental resources. Part 1 is submitted with concept submittal (30%) and ESIS Part 2 is submitted with preliminary submittal (60%) and then again at pre-final submittal (95%) to address any changes in the project. Environmental information is obtained from various environmental agencies including Illinois Historic Preservation Agency, Illinois Department of Natural Resources, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife. The ESIS process requires coordination with the various design engineers on the project to obtain the information and determine potential impacts. 2IM has done ESISs for several Illinois Tollway projects including I-90 widening and reconstruction IL 53 to Oakton Road, Elmhurst Road Interchange, and I-88 roadway and bridge construction Annie Glidden to IL 56, and I-355 roadway and bridge rehabilitation, milepost 12.1 to milepost 22.3.
